Thanks , I've not used dxdiag before , very useful.
It says I have a Standard VGA graphics adapter - Intel Ironlake mobile graphics chipset.
Direct 3D Acceleration is not available !!
I suppose this is the problem , I'll look into updating this.
Thanks for your help.

01/04 update

Lenovo Ideapad 64 bit windows 7  Home Premium
Direct X 10  -- 'unable to create 3d screen'
DirectX 9.0c -- 'unable to create 3d screen'
also tried both in Windows XP compatability mode without success

HP Mini 110-3700 32 bit widows 7 Starter with SP1 installed
Direct X 10    -- 'unable to create 3d screen'
Direct X 9.0c  -- SUCCESS

so my problem with the Lenovo is either

1. it's a 64 bit machine or
2. it needs SP1

unfortunately I've been unable to successfully install SP1 and there seems to be no solution for this from Microsoft.

Has anyone out there run on 64 bit machines ?

Thanks

I would love to try your simulator but cannot get it to run under windows 7 .
I looked on the forum and saw others have the same problem with 'unable to create 3d screen' message .
I've followed the suggestion to install DirectX 9.0c ( Directx 7 will not install on Windows 7 )  , but to no avail.
Do you have any advice on how to proceed , perhaps some information on which DirectX dll's are required.
Thankyou
