Installation

Once you have downloaded the installer, please run it to install Bridge Command. This will also install the source code.

Bridge Command has been tested with Windows 98, XP and Windows 7. Some problems have been reported with Vista, please see the note below.

License

Bridge Command is copyright by James Packer 2004-2010, and distributed under the General Public Licence, version 2. Please ensure you read and understand the licence before downloading and using the programme. This is the only licence which grants you the right to use the programme.

Many thanks to all of those who have allowed their ship models to be distributed with Bridge Command. The copyright of these models remains with their authors, and the models may only be used with Bridge Command, unless you have express permission to use the models for other purposes, granted by the model's author.

Note for Vista users

If you are using Vista, Bridge Command may not run, or run very slowly. Windows Vista is not compatible with older 3d applications as it is distributed. The fundamental problem is that DirectX 10 is distributed with Vista, and is not compatible with programmes using previous DirectX versions. This is unlike all previous new versions of DirectX, which were backwards compatible.

Installing DirectX 9.0c from Microsoft may allow Bridge Command to run properly. You should be able to install this alongside your existing DirectX 10 installation, but I have not been able to verify this personally.

I would welcome feedback very much from Vista users on how they have installed Bridge Command, and if they have been successful in running it. This will help me understand what the problem is, and if it is possible to work around it. You can do this by emailing me, or using the forum.
